The wedding band, that most renowned and straight away recognisable symbol of the joining of a person and a lady as hubby and better half in the establishment of wedding, has a long, wide spread and puzzling history. The meaning of the marriage band can be followed back nearly five thousand years. It is asserted the ring custom was first originated by the Egyptians who some 4,800 years back twisted plant material (like hemp) into rings and wristbands. The ring is of course a circle and this was the symbol of perpetuity for the Egy ptians as well as many other traditional cultures. It had no beginning and no end, like time.
